  1. Hey guys! Great discussion today on the game ideas... I've placed the game idea document into the DropBox... For all who need access to that please let me know if you have problems and I will assist where I can :) I will email it as well for those who are having difficulties just let me know. Thanks guys! See you Thursday!! We missed you Samantha... ;)

  2. Sorry I wasn't there I must have missed that everyone was still going even though the teacher was out of town. My bad! Oh but I did send Nephi a game idea way back on the 10th. Here is one more idea too!

    Diabetic Dash-

It's similar to Diner Dash in that you take orders, deliver food, and pickup money, but there will be a bar/blood sugar # (color coded in green, yellow, and red) to indicate how high their blood sugar is. For customer with good blood sugar, they can order whatever they want, but when a customer with unstable blood sugar comes in, you have to suggest healthier dishes if they try to order junk food.
Objective: keep your restaurant running smoothly without letting anyone go into a diabetic coma.

    3. Omg if we did this one we would haaaave to put Wilford in it...and make him say "diabetus" lol. He could be an NPC that explains the rules or something. Too funny!

  3. Great Concept Sami!-

Also, Just FYI I tried to add your concept to the poll this time but I guess it locks out editing once someone has voted. However, I will include you're - and any other new - concepts in another poll next week after we meet.

    Thanks Sami! :)

  4. Dating Simulation Game-explore human relationships

Just like the dating sims in Japan, this will ask you to spend time with various characters and have you level up your relationships with them. Based on your responses to these characters and what you say (which is prewritten in a menu) you can make friends, enemies, and lovers. You can also date men or women and this will change the gameplay (the characters will be bullied more if you're gay). This game will explore human sexuality and relationships.

    1. This would be programing and animation efficient. But would ask for lots of art (and we have tons of artists!)

  5. Animal testing game-

To make things fun, players can choose between a handful of different animals that have been used for experiments. Each animal has it's own awful traits like a monkey used for breast implants that has giant boobs, a dog used for botox that has a huge grin and wide eyes, a ferret used for sleeping meds that is narcoleptic, etc. (I wanna throw in a turrets parrot too for good measure lol) The game could be a platformer or sidescroller in which the goal is to rescue other test animals (thus unlocking more characters to play). Each animal will have a powerup based on it's disease or whatever. Like the parrot could screech obscenities and cripple foes, monkey can flash (add a censor bar I guess for safety) etc.

  6. Hey so I'm probably going to take a sick day today, not feeling too well at all today. So I'm going to post whatever ideas I've come up with here.
    http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Ritual
^this is where I'm getting these stories from so If anybody feels like doing some reading this is where to go, plus if creepy-pasta does get chosen we can have a little bit of a head start on level design.

    http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/The_Message
This is what I'm thinking for a sort of tutorial level, start in a dark alley, locked door behind you and a dead end the other way with this message taped to the wall. The game gives you a short tutorial on how to move and how to click things, you reach the end of the alley, you read the message, cuts to first person video of you turning around, something is there that kills you, cuts to black, and then the main title appears.

This is the other story I've found so far that would make a good level.

  7. So we just had to present our game pitch today, but I don't think there is a solid answer. Here are all the games that we came up with including the old and new ideas:
Color factory: mixing colors to create toys
    Mathblasters
High level math game (sorry Kyle. I forgot the equation):/
    Drunk Driving Game
    RAWR
    Diabetic Dash
    Dating simulator
    Creepy Pasta
    Nuclear Reactor game
    political corruption game
Food game (I think it was called "Because she was hungry")
    College Simulator
Wrecked (used to be called get out alive)

If you want, you can create a poll with all the options or just the ones that won in the last poll.

  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FpigqfcvlM

This is the video I've been talking about. I highly recommend taking a minute and watching it. It is really smart and informative on game design! I know it's kinda long, but it's also funny and entertaining :)

There is a lot of profanity though, just a heads up.

  10. Sorry for ducking out early yesterday everyone. Cold/flu just finally caught up to me and kicked me in the face.

So all the designers on our staff, the biggest thing we need at the moment other than art, is dialog. It would be great if each of you could write up one characters questions, answers, and whatnot for next week. Basing it off of certain personality types would be fun (but maybe announce what type you are doing so that we don't double up). Plus announcing it will let the artists know what kind of character they should draw.

Jeffery if you could get the table finished (if you already haven't that would be rad. If you could also get Rebecca that Adobe suite dealio by next week that would help.

Rebecca if you would like to pick out some color schemes for the interface I'd appreciate it. Look at the background Jeffery painted on the dropbox to see what would stand out and look nice with it. Once you get the Adobe Suite if you surf youtube a bit you will find lots of great resources to teach you Photoshop and such. You only really need to familiar with like 5 tools so no worries! If nothing else, I can send line art to you and you can color it ;)

As for character art it's time to make some actual characters. As long as it fits into the modern day anime style, anything should be fine (think Fullmetal Alch, Bakemonogatari, Sword Art Online ect). For coloring, Katawa Shoujo had a great blended style so I'd like to emulate that (doesn't have to be super perfect but the colors need to meet together softly.) Each character needs 8 expressions saved in png format with a clear background so Kyle can easily import them into the game.

Kyle I have no understanding of code so do whatever you gotta do lol.

Sorry if I sound bossy everyone! I'm a Scrum lead...captain...bah whatever. But I know that the end of the semester is going to come up fast and it would be great to be refining the game during our last few weeks, not still putting it together. I'm going to try to have one character with 8 expressions by Thursday.

    1. We had a team meeting after class detailing what I needed by Sunday in order to make Tuesday's deadline for Prototype. I'll detail it again for anyone who forget.

In short, what I need is simple Dialogue. There are three states of dialogue that can be used in the prototype are Question, Ask, and Follow. Question is a Question she asks you. For example, "Hi my name is *name*". This can lead to several choices that the player can use to answer, such as "Hi", "Hey, my name is *name*", "...", etc. Whatever you choose will therefore cause her to pick her own response that can be another question or a follow up. If its a question, then it will lead to another state of type Question. Else if she chooses to Follow up, then it will lead to a state of type Follow. Follow is a state where she follows up on a question. Depending on how you answer that follow up, that will cause her to choose a Question state or a Follow state. Ask state is a question you ask her, for example "What do you like to do?". Which she can follow with a response to the Follow state. Each of these will play off each other and dictate where the conversation can go accurately (hopefully).

What I need is 2 - 3 questions/followUps for each state. It doesn't all have to connect, but some connectivity and follow ups would be nice. For Question state, I would like three questions that she can ask which therefore have a small list (perhaps 3) of possible responses. Depending on these responses another sub-list of where these will lead to (Another Question or a Follow up, or even a question which will yield strange results). This is the same for the Ask state, where you ask a question, she has a list she can choose from of appropriate responses and then a list of your responses/questions. Follow state will just have a follow up to a question she or you will ask for example "I like big boats and I cannot lie." Which would then have a list of your responses to that such as "thats great" or a question which will either lead to a Question or Follow state.

I need 2 - 3 states by Sunday. If you don't fully understand, feel free to ask me and don't worry. I plan to drastically improve upon this model when Tuesday hits and we can see where we can go with this model and what improvements are needed.

    2. Also, I'll write up a Protocol to outline how these states work and how to format them when I get a chance so that we can use that to improve upon it. For now, just send me the questions and I'll deal with it.

  11. I had an interesting idea last night about not having the player answer any questions, just have the player ask questions and the have him respond to her response.
    EX.
You: whats your favorite music genre?
    Her: I like techno-Reggae
You:(That sucks) (Ive never listened to that before)(Sounds interesting) (Thats my favorite Genre) (ETC.)
stuff like that, or if she asks a question you could make it something along the lines of
    Her:Do you like Lady Gaga?
    You:(GOD NO)(Not really)(never heard her)(OMG I LOVE GAGA)
    thoughts?

  12. I think that's a great idea, to make sure that the questions aren't TOO open ended towards the player

  13. Idea: When the date gets to stressed, we could do something similar to the "Jack Attack" in "You don't know Jack." The girl basically starts coming closer and we have phrases that come out of the screen.
